Secrets on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

In January of 2023, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway debuted at Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland. It honestly is a very fun and cute ride and if you have kids, they’ll enjoy it, but there are so many hidden secrets on the ride so I want to reveal 20 secrets on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

1. When you first enter you’ll see a towering theater and a part of Toontown. You’ll realize that the theater was never there before, and where is the Gag Factory? Well, Runaway Railway replaced The Gag Factory. If you didn’t know the Gag Factory it is a shop that is related to all of these mischievous Toontown schemes. This is a little nod to the ol’ Gag Factory and if you look to the right of Runaway Railway, you’ll see the old Gag Factory sign.

2. Also when you are on the right, look up at the theater you’ll see red and blue letters. The red letters spell out A MUST C, meaning they’re saying that the Perfect Picnic (the preshow for Runaway Railway) is awesome. If you’re wondering what it really says, it says, “A MODERN MOUSE-TERPIECE.

3. Now head toward the entrance and look up. The theater is named EL CAPITOON THEATER. Sounds familiar? Well, EL CAPITOON is a nod to the movie theater EL CAPITAN THEATER! El Capitan is located in Hollywood, CA right next to the home of Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!

4. When you’re about to enter, you’ll see a ticket booth. If you look inside, you can see a Three Mousketeers Poster, a picture of someone from a Goofy Movie, post-it notes that say Huey, Duey, and Luey were here, and many more.

5. When you enter El Capitoon, you’ll see movie posters for movies coming out soon. Well, what if I told you that these movies were based on real ones! Take TOONSIES for example, it is based off the hit movie musical NEWSIES! Then Mickey, I Shrunk The Nieces is based off Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Goofy Friday is Freaky Friday, The Absent-minded Professor Von Drake is The Absent-minded Professor, High School Goofical 3 Senior Year is High School Musical 3 Senior Year, The Feisty Ducks are The Mighty Ducks, Meeska Mooska is Hocus Pocus, The Mousketeer is the Rocketeer, The Chipmunk Trap is the Parent Trap, and The Scroogiest Millionaire is the Happiest Millionaire.

6. When you enter the snack room you’ll see some popcorn, a cashier, and some candy. Did you know that the two cash registers have specific numbers on them? The first register says $11.18 and the second one says 19.28. Put them together and you’ll get November 18, 1928, the day that Steamboat Willie released.

7. Still at the snack room you’ll see a popcorn machine. At the top you’ll see a roastie toastie. If you don’t know what a roastie toastie is, it is a little popcorn decoration that they put on the cart related to the lands theme. The roastie toastie is actually from the Mickey Mouse short Shipped Away. She’s Erica the Cruise Director.

8. Also on the popcorn stand, you’ll see the machine that makes popcorn. If you look closer at the popcorn you’ll see the shapes of the popcorn look familiar. It’s the shape of Mickey, Minnie, and Donald!

9. There are also some other snacks that relate to Disney things like, Powerlime, Laugh o’ Grahams, and more! Even Scrooge McDuck is featured there.

10. When you get to the sauces one of them says “Your Cheese”, and one says “Nacho Cheese.” This is a reference to the joke, “What type of cheese is never yours? Nacho Cheese!”

11. On the sauces, you’ll see Begorra Orchards. Begorra Orchards is a nod to the little man of Disneyland, Patrick Begorra. He currently lives on the right side of Indiana Jones Adventure inside a tree.

12. Now we enter the Pre-show room where Goofy crashes the train. Here’s how it works. Once Goofy crashes, the screen pulls up releasing smoke, then the smoke covers the bottom and the bottom separates, and finally the screen unfolds forward.

13. When you get on the ride, make sure you go to the right lane and the second train cart. If you’re located there look behind you and you’ll spot a Mickey up high.

14. Still standing there? Look up high and to the right. It spells out Minnie if you look at the line on the wood up top. Also, it spells Mickey right behind the Minnie one.

15. When we get on you’ll see a bird on top of a bridge. Then you’ll see a sign under it, it says 1928. Hmm… does that year sound familiar? Well, 1928 is the year Mickey and Minnie first debuted in Steamboat Willie, 5 years after Disney was made!

16. Every wonder what the bird’s name is? It’s name is Chuuby. They made a plush and a magnetic plush that sticks to your shoulder.

17. This has nothing to do with Disneyland, but rather with Disney World. If you’ve been to Hollywood Studios at Disney World, you’ll know that the Great Movie Ride was before Runaway Railway, so in the Carnival scene you will see a sign for a ride called the Great Moving Ride with some people putting their hands up. That refers to the Great Movie Ride.

18. After the beach area you’ll see that you’re being sucked into the sewers. If you look at the pipes on the right hand side, you’ll see a classic Mickey.

19. After the city scene you’ll find the dance studio. When you go in Daisy will greet you and at the end, she says “Now let’s CONGA!” During the conga, on the 3rd flower to the right, look in the middle for a classic mickey.

20. In the factory scene, there are so many hidden mickeys. Like on the machines. There are about 6 mickeys at this part.

There are so many other secrets in the parks and on Runaway Railway and these are just some, like the ride has a trackless system like Rise of The Resistance, also when you exit on the other side there’s also red and blue letters. Can you figure out what they spell? The Disney parks are already so magical that you usually miss these. Seriously though the ride is so fun, silly, and goofy! So, the next time you go to the Disney parks or Runaway Railway, stay alert for all of the little details. Also, stay tuned for our next blog post.
