Disney Discovered recently joined many other fans at the Burbank Town Center, where they hosted an open house for the Joel Magee Disney Collection Auction. They had about 1500 Disney items, with many on display for all of us to view up close. For Disney kids, this was a great chance to see so many historical items and how Disneyland has changed over the years.
Who is Joel Magee?
Joel Magee is the biggest collector of Disney memorabilia in the world and has been collecting for over 20 years. They explained before we entered that he has so much Disney memorabilia that it’s piled on top of each other in his warehouse so he can’t fully enjoy it. That’s why he’s auctioning some of the pieces.
Where and when is the Joel Magee Disney Collection Auction?
This auction takes place at the Van Eaton Galleries in Burbank and will be held over three days, starting on July 17th at 11:00. That’s right, that’s today! You can visit this link for more information and to see an awesome catalogue with photos and descriptions of every item up for auction.
What are fun things to see in the Joel Magee Disney Collection?
HAUNTED MANSION DOOM BUGGY

This Doom Buggy’s door is still fully functional and is an actual vehicle. This section also includes 3 of the original Haunted Mansion stretching portraits and the 3 Hitchhiking Ghosts.

Do you like ride vehicles? Well, there is a vehicle from The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, the train from Big Thunder Mountain, A Dumbo, a Snow White’s Scary Adventures Bashful vehicle, a Space Mountain vehicle, a Peter Pan’s Flight vehicle, a Skyway to Tomorrowland vehicle, 2 Autopia vehicles, and a Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters door.
HOLLYWOOD TOWER OF TERROR TV & ELEVATOR DOOR
I’ve never been on this ride, but my parents love it. They replaced the one at Disneyland with Guardian Of The Galaxy Mission Breakout, but Tower of Terror is still at Disney World (this is the original version and, according to mom, is better than the one that was at Disneyland anyway).
This tv is from Tower of Terror and still has the preshow on it. Something else there that may seem cool is an elevator door from Tower of Terror. Imagine having this at the entrance to your house!

TIKI ROOM ANIMATRONIC BIRDS AND STATUE
Joel Magee has said that these Tiki Room birds are some of his favorites items in the collection. They had been in really bad condition when he got them, but he was able to restore them with the help of friends. You can see from the video clip how great they look now!
Every 10 minutes, you can see the birds and statue singing the Tiki Tiki Room and the Tiki Chant. The bird on top is Jose. It’s just like being in the Enchanted Tiki Room.
TOMORROWLAND AND MATTERHORN MODELS
There are a couple detailed models that really stood out. The one of Matterhorn showed bobsleds and also had the Monorail and Skyway To Tomorrowland going through the mountain.
The second one was a Tomorrowland model, showing rides like Carousel of Progress, PeopleMover, Adventure Through Inner Space (now Star Tours) and America The Beautiful Circle-Vision (now Buzz Lightyear). You can also see astronaut Mickey flying above, getting a bird’s eye view of Tomorrowland!

MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE SIGN

This Main Street Electrical Parade sign lights up! According to the catalogue, this is a window display for the much-loved parade. (Stay toon-ed to Disney Discovered as we’ll be reviewing the best Disney parades soon!)
So, did you also visit the Joel Magee Disneyland Collection in person and what did you like?
